The City of Tuscaloosa’s Community Development Block Grant Disaster Recovery grant was audited by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. The audit revealed that the City administered its CDBG-DR funds in accordance with HUD requirements and there were no findings or recommendations on the use of the funds.

“Earning a glowing review from HUD’s Office of Inspector General is no easy task for any city," said Tuscaloosa Mayor Walt Maddox. “To meet the highest of financial and auditing standards, in an unprecedented and pressure packed environment, is remarkable. I am proud of our talented team of public servants who serve our City with distinction.”

HUD provides these grants to communities who need assistance in recovering from disasters. The grants specifically aim to help cities and counties in low-income areas who would not be able to rebuild without proper and extensive funding.

Tuscaloosa was selected for review as it was given more than $43 million to fund and assist the City in recovering from the April 2011 tornadoes. According to the report published online by HUD, the audit ensured that all activities were completed in accordance with applicable requirements and under the national objective.
